Many of us usually associate McDonald’s with burgers, fries, and the occasional McFlurry after a meal. But if you look back at its old menus, you may find sweet treats that have almost nothing in common with the modern McDonald’s menu that we all know. 

Do you remember the little boxes of McDonaldland Cookies or the warm Cinnamon Melts that smelled like they had just come out of a bakery? Some of these treats disappeared years ago, but snack enthusiasts never stopped dreaming about them.

1. Cinnamon Melts

It’s hard to get over Cinnamon Melts even now, two decades after it was first introduced by McDonald’s, long before the boom of cinnabons on social media. Cinnamon Melts, however, weren’t actually cinnamon rolls. Instead, this sweet treat was a little tray of soft dough pieces covered in cinnamon sugar and cream cheese icing.

Because of the fact that you could pull apart each piece, they were easy to share while they were still warm. That’s why kids always considered it a fun breakfast treat, while adults loved it with the morning coffee. Some people even used to take the tray home and share it during a movie or game night, whether while playing a board game with friends or online games on platforms like FS casino.

2. McDonaldland Cookies

Still, not everybody is a fan of cinnamon. And for those who preferred something small and crunchy, McDonaldland Cookies was a definite must-try treat. They came in little boxes, and each cookie had the face of a McDonaldland character on it. For instance, you could pull out Ronald McDonald, Grimace, or another familiar face before eating it. 

These cookies were created by Keebler, and because of their packaging and marketing, they were especially adored by children who loved ordering Happy Meals. These days, the cookies are already gone from U.S. menus, but if you’re a fan of those, you should know that McDonaldland Cookies are still listed on McDonald’s menu in Australia.

3. Fruit ’N Yogurt Parfait

If cookies and cakes aren’t really your thing, chances are that you’d fall for the Fruit ’N Yogurt Parfait. It came in a small cup with creamy yogurt, strawberries, and blueberries, plus granola to sprinkle on top. The fruit made it feel refreshing, while the granola gave it just enough crunch. 

The best part was that this parfait was one of those McDonald’s snacks that could be enjoyed at almost any time of day. You could have it with breakfast or pick it up when you wanted something sweet after a meal, but ice cream was just too much.

Unfortunately for the fans, the parfait left U.S. menus in 2020 just because the restaurant decided to simplify its products. 

4. Fried Apple Pie

This one might surprise you because you may still notice this beloved apple pie on McDonald’s menus sometimes, and technically it never disappeared from McDonald’s. However, if you live in the United States and remember how the old, original apple pie used to taste, you probably realize that the current product is very different from the original dessert.

McDonald’s introduced its fried apple pie in 1968. Because of how unique and different it was from all the other desserts at the time, it quickly became famous as a snack that burned the mouths of customers who ate it too quickly. It’s still considered McDonald’s signature sweet treat, but the fried version was replaced by a baked pie on most U.S. menus in 1992.

The good news is that McDonald’s brought the fried pie back for a limited time in June 2026, which is a sign that people still remember the original taste. 

5. Brownie Melts

The final discontinued item on this list was especially adored by chocolate lovers. Any restaurant that serves desserts knows that it’s a must to have something specific for chocolate enthusiasts, and McDonald’s was no exception.

Brownie Melts was truly a special treat. It came in a little tray of brownie pieces covered with chocolate sauce and a drizzle of white icing. If Cinnamon Melts were the treat for cinnamon fans, this was a real winner in the chocolate category.

This dessert was sold in McCafe in the late 2000s. It didn’t last, but as you can see, people still dream about tasting it one more time, even after all this time.
