Brief History Of Cadbury
Cadbury is the inventor and manufacturer of Caramilk. That is why it is essential to first have a brief overview of the brand’s history.
The history of Cadbury, the market leader in the world for chocolate candies, dates back to 1824 when a young Quaker named John Cadbury established a business in Birmingham. At his store, John offered to drink chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and tea. He believed that alcohol was a major contributor to poverty and hoped that his goods would provide an alternative. As a result, John held all of his items to a high degree of excellence, like many other Quakers.
The first Cadbury’s chocolate bars, produced by Cadbury Brothers in Birmingham, were initially offered for sale in the UK in 1897. The chocolate bars were marketed as being “pure” and “wholesome” and were prepared with more cocoa than other chocolate bars of the era.
The original chocolate bar was a combination of milk and dark chocolate and was known as the Cadbury Dairy Milk bar. The Flake Bar, which is produced with milk chocolate and has a flaky texture, was also launched by the business in 1920.
The Flake Bar was renamed the Crunchie when Cadbury introduced the milk chocolate and honeycomb Crunchie bar in the 1930s. The business introduced the milk chocolate-aerated Wispa Bar in the 1940s.

The Australian version of the Caramilk bar was introduced in 1968 and withdrawn in 1994. In 2017, a limited edition of one million bars of the product was once again released in New Zealand. The product was revived in Australia as a limited edition in 2018, 2019, and 2020 in response to consumer demand. The product was introduced in the UK and Ireland in 2021.
A limited-edition Dairy Milk Caramilk Top Deck (a milk chocolate bar covered with Caramilk), Caramilk Marble (marbled milk chocolate and Caramilk with a hazelnut praline filling), and Caramilk-flavored Philadelphia cream cheese are some of the variations that are offered in Australia.
In 2020, Cadbury introduced Caramilk Hokey Pokey in New Zealand, which combines Caramilk with bits of honeycomb toffee.
Comeback After 20 Years
After being phased out in Australia for more than 20 years, Cadbury has decided to bring Caramilk back. According to Cadbury, it decided to bring the chocolate back to Australia after learning that Kiwis were selling Caramilk to Australians online for more than $30 a block.
Although Caramilk has just recently arrived on Australian grocery shelves, it is selling rapidly. The decision to bring back the candy bar came after many people signed a popular social media petition asking Cadbury to bring back their Marble chocolate blocks. Despite receiving over 13,000 likes on Facebook, Cadbury has not committed to bringing back Marble.
In reintroducing Caramilk, Cadbury stated that there are several hurdles associated with product development when bringing back a long-time favorite candy. Instead of creating an altogether new product, a representative for Cadbury stated, “when we bring back an old favorite, we need to make sure we’re giving a flavor experience that fits people’s recall of the product.”

Secret of Caramilk

Dairy Milk Caramel
A bar with a similar concept to Caramilk (chocolate with caramel within) but subtle differences in flavor, shape, ingredients, and packaging is available under the name Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel. Dairy Milk Caramel is available in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
