Dubai Chocolate was first introduced in 2021 by Sarah Hamouda, the founder of Dubai’s FIX. She came up with the idea when she had a strong pregnancy craving for a specific flavor. Believe it or not, that craving later became the flavor we now all adore. 

In general, the chocolate was inspired by kunafa, which is a Middle Eastern dessert. To make kunafa, the main ingredient is vermicelli or shredded pastry sheets that are common in certain Asian snacks.

Despite Dubai Chocolate’s current status, it wasn’t always a massive success. In the early days, it didn’t gain much attention until Sarah collaborated with influencer Maria Vehara, who posted a TikTok video of herself trying it. That was the video that went viral. While Lindt sells the Dubai chocolate for £10 each, Dubai’s FIX sells 200 grams of bars for $20. Not surprisingly, it’s not the cheapest chocolate in other countries either. But considering its ingredients, it’s understandable why the Dubai chocolate is pricier than other types of chocolates — pistachios are not locally found in many countries, and thus, it’s expensive to produce Dubai chocolate. 

The original source of pistachios is Iran, but they’re already in high demand all over the globe, including in North America, Southern Europe, and the Middle East. Even in the UAE, where importing pistachios isn’t the biggest problem, these nuts are considered somewhat luxurious, which in turn makes the chocolate more expensive. 

It also needs to be noted that the companies that produce the Dubai chocolate try their best to deliver a product using high-quality ingredients, which also affects the price.
